What I used

I heard about Navidrome from this video, and it immediately attracted me. It’s simple, easy to setup, and fulfills all my requirements for a music streaming service.

How I Set it Up

The developers over at Navidrome provided a docker-compose file for anyone looking to self-host their server in docker.

Results

After downloading these songs legally, I now have my very own ad-free, personal music streaming experience.

Mobile Client

There are a lot of mobile clients that support the OpenSubsonic API, but I went with Symfonium. It offers a lot of features without requiring a subscription. It’s smooth, seamless, highly customisable, and overall pretty great.

This isn’t to say that I’ve completely abandoned conventional streaming services. I do enjoy the benefits of accessing a vast music library filled with hidden gems waiting to be discovered, but I dislike the opaque practices surrounding something personal that I enjoy in my day-to-day life.
